Abbots Barton Hotel is located within the vibrant city of Canterbury, Kent , 10 mins walk outside the city walls to be exact! Gothic in style, it was originally built as a private home but became a hotel in 1927. The ‘3 star’ hotel is now part of the ‘Best Western’ chain & following a complete renovation can offer 53 guest bedrooms (at the time of writing). Licensed for both wedding ceremonies & partnerships it makes an ideal base for your wedding day. Once your guests have arrived, they simply do not have to move again! It can also be a great base for your wedding reception following a more formal church wedding.
In terms of décor the hotel is richly furnished & all of the main areas i.e. the bar, the restaurant, the banqueting rooms are decorated to a high standard. Plush, rich colours including oranges, yellows, deep reds, blues, greens & burgundy are the order of the day, so photographers be aware of your white balance!
We have photographed many weddings at this venue ranging from very large events (100+) to smaller, more intimate, wedding days (20). The hotel can accommodate all of the 4 seasons very well but I have to say, it’s especially magical at Christmas when the lavish décor comes into it’s own.
The hotel enjoys 2 acres of landscaped gardens which are perfect for those all- important formal photographs. One of my favourite areas within the gardens are the gorgeous pampas grasses which serve as a great back-drop!
